GIS Specialist

Responsible for providing mapping services for all departments and to be responsible for maintaining the Geographical Information System and its ancillary software and systems.  Interprets civil and engineering information to create maps, exhibits, datasets, reports, and presentations.


Duties


-Maintain and modify existing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data, performing regular quality checks and producing maps utilizing GIS, OMS (Outage Management System), Project Tracker software data, and ancillary systems.

-Posts and validates electric and fiber construction staking sheets to the GIS to accurately reflect system equipment and connectivity.

-Regularly update the Outage Management System model from the GIS.

-Export GIS data to validate and produce accurate Engineering Analysis models.

-Coordinates the creative production of requested datasets and maps.

-Record customer easements in the database by linking to scanned easement images.

-Updates parcel data from governmental agencies.

-Uses AutoCAD to update GIS with new subdivisions, lots, buildings, and pavement.

-Maintains pole attachments and pole treatment records in the GIS.

-Administer the mobile GIS, inspection, and service order platforms.

-Validates and corrects lights, meters, and phasing in the GIS from various data sources.

-Maintains GPS equipment and performs field data collection.


Skills/Qualifications

An Associate degree from a two-year school in Geographic Information Systems, Cartography, Computer Science, or a related computer-aided design field;  or five (5) years or a related experience and/or training/  or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Proficient in computer technology/  adapts and embraces new devices, software applications, and technology processes.  Must have experience with ArcGIS products and AutoCAD.  Has computer skills in such fields as GIS, graphic design, electric system design, statistics, and/or web-based training.  Familiarity with Futura and CrescentLink is preferred.  Must be able to lift and move up to 40 pounds.  Must have and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.  Must be proficient in the use of a personal computer and applications customarily used in an office and engineering environment.  Ability to work non-standard work hours or weekends as needed.


Work environment:  


Ninety-five (95) percent of the duties of the job are performed indoors.  The noise level in this environment is usually moderate.  The employee will be required to utilize specific safety equipment and follow all safety rules.
